I spent 24 hours spring fly fishing on the Owyhee River, camping overnight and chasing the famous Skwala hatch. Early season on the Owyhee can offer some of the best dry fly fishing of the year, and this trip was all about finding rising fish and targeting big brown trout on the surface.
Throughout the trip, I focused on fishing Skwala dry flies during the hatch, watching for subtle rises, and covering different sections of the river. I was able to bring some massive brown trout in the net during the hatch. This was an overnight camping trip, spending a full day and evening on the river, then setting up camp and getting back on the water the next morning. Spring conditions, windy weather, and timing the hatch all made for a good time fishing.
